Ida Wanoo

The Reluctant Painter

Since 1958

My name is Ida Wanoo,
the reluctant painter.
I'm an old time punk girl, reformed school teacher and life long contrarian; I generally push the door that says "pull".
I have a tiny, cat- filled clubhouse where I like to paint while watching Hammer films or listening to The Ronettes.
I collect Japanese fashion dolls from the 1960's and broken soap dishes.
My paintings have been referred to as  "outsider", "naive", "ridiculous", "sour 'n' sweet", "cute", "surreal", "darkly beautiful" "oh, the horror" and "WTF!?".

How would you describe my quirky tableaux?
